Vietnamese, Danish businesses ink 14 energy cooperation deals

Vietnamese, Danish businesses ink 14 energy cooperation deals

19/11/2022

Vietnamese and Danish enterprises signed 14 memoranda of understanding on cooperation in wind energy and energy efficiency during the ongoing visit to Vietnam by Danish Crown Prince Frederik and Princess Mary Elizabeth.

The signing was made within the framework of the Vietnam - Denmark Sustainable Energy Summit Forum held in Hanoi on Tuesday in the presence of the Danish crown prince and princess, who arrived a day earlier for a four-day visit at the invitation of Vietnam’s Vice-State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan.

The Danish guests are accompanied by a group of 36 Danish enterprises, including 22 specializing in green energy and the others in efficient energy management and use, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Crown Prince Frederik affirmed that Vietnam and Denmark will become like-minded countries to move toward a green future despite their possibly different starting points

Danish businesses have come here at this event to support Vietnam in its efforts toward building a greener society, the crown prince stated.

He emphasized that Danish businesses, with their experience and knowledge in renewable energy and sustainable business, are suitable partners for Vietnamese enterprises.

Along with their Vietnamese partners, Danish companies will find common solutions that help bring interests and prosperity to both sides.

Offshore wind energy and efficient energy use play an important role in supporting Vietnam's efforts in its transition to a low-carbon economy and they are two areas where Danish businesses possess effective solutions and technologies that can support Vietnam, he added.

As part of the forum were two seminars focusing on providing Denmark’s experience and technologies for Vietnam’s wind industry and on enhancing energy efficiency in industries toward Vietnam’s commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.

These are two areas in which Denmark has a lot of experience and possess technologies that have been proven efficient.

Wind energy will play an important role in Vietnam’s energy transition toward its net-zero emissions commitment, and the potential of offshore wind power of the country, which has a coastline of more than 3,000km, is estimated at about 160 GW, the Vietnam News Agency cited the seminars.

The two workshops, respectively chaired by the crown prince and princess, created an important platform for further promoting dialogue and knowledge and experience sharing among policymakers, promising businesses, and investors of both countries, Danish Ambassador to Vietnam Nicolai Prytz said.

According to the Danish Embassy in Vietnam, nearly 70 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in Vietnam are generated from energy production and consumption, so specific measures and actions in the energy sector play a key role in the green transition of Vietnam’s economy.
